Michelangelo makes a study for a Bronze David
After the huge wave of admiration for his monumental sculpture of David, Michelangelo made plans for a bronze version. Although the project never progressed beyond his studies, the drawings tell us much of his plans and his thoughts for a new and powerful sculpture. Ah, the potential… the potential!

Mantegna Painter in Padua
Perhaps the most engaging of Mantegna’s Madonna and Child paintings, this early work portrays an expression more gentle and serene than others in this genre. Inspired by the reliefs of the Florentine Donatello, Roger Fry accurately writes that Mantegna shows an ‘incomparable precision and firmness of contour’.
Exquisite curves and volumetric forms, the artist did good.
